How Much Does IOSH Training Cost?

At Kentec Training, we offer two workplace health & safety training courses accredited by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH); IOSH Working Safely & IOSH Managing Safely.

IOSH Working Safely courses typically range from £115 to £150 per delegate, and offers a one-day, entry-level qualification that gives employees a practical understanding of workplace health and safety.

IOSH Managing Safely, on the other hand, ranges from around £475 to £550 per delegate, and develop on that same workplace health & safety knowledge further to provide an in-depth understanding of the legal, moral and social duties of sector supervisors, managers, directors and business owners, and more, over the course of three days.

To clarify why course costs differ, we’ve shared insights below into the variables, what is included, and how to decide between the Managing Safely course or the Working Safely course, and whether either is the right option for you or your organisation.

What Is Included in the Cost of IOSH Training?

Depending on which training provider you pick, you’ll usually find that the IOSH Managing Safely fees are comprehensive, and will include:

  • All of the Training Modules
  • Course materials and Learning resources
  • Theory Assessment & Out-of-Classroom Assessed Project
  • Physical IOSH certification upon completion (or e-certification for eLearning) valid for 3 years

In some instances, you might also expect additional support, such as advice on further courses or training that would benefit your career or company, and 1-to-1 assistance for delegates who require accessibility support, such as help with reading during written assessments – all of which Kentec Training proudly offers.

What Factors Influence the Cost of Attending an IOSH Course?

While our pricing is fixed, we recognise that costs can vary significantly depending on these aspects:

  • Learning Format: Classroom courses involving specialist training centres and in-person instructors demand higher costs to meet the rise in value. Online courses are often significantly lower in price due to their nature of being self-paced, pre-made and easily accessible, though they do not include face-to-face tuition and arguably lower the quality of the course given without an instructor present.
  • Location: Our purpose-built training centres in Tonbridge, Ashford and Glasgow offer considerable cost efficiencies compared to on-site course delivery, or other providers that hire training venues, especially those in central London.
  • Course Duration: Course length can vary significantly. Some courses take just a few hours to complete, while others, such as our NEBOSH General Certificate, are delivered over 12 days. Longer courses typically cost more because they require training facilities and instructors to be dedicated for an extended period. For those looking for greater flexibility or a more cost-effective option, self-paced eLearning courses can be an excellent alternative.
  • Group Size: With most courses priced per delegate, costs can be influenced by potential discounts or economies of scale when booking training for several candidates as a group.
  • Expertise and Quality: High-quality training providers are often in equally high demand due to their reputation for delivering excellent outcomes and highly skilled training.

Delegates might also want to compare block-release courses, where they complete training over consecutive days, with day-release courses, which have a gap (typically a week) between each session.

How Do the Costs of IOSH Managing Safely Courses Compare?

To help compare courses and providers, we’ve shared average pricing for the IOSH training (as well as some alternative Health & Safety courses from other awarding bodies) around the UK – noting that these can depend on multiple factors which we’ll explore shortly:

Although online courses tend to be lower-cost, the impact can be limited by the lack of interaction, whereas those attending in-person courses may be better able to apply the concepts learned to real-world scenarios. Whilst pricing is important, it’s also essential you consider the inclusions in the amount you’re paying for any certified tuition, and the quality of the delivery.

Is IOSH Training Worth the Cost?

Work-related ill health and injuries resulted in an estimated 40.1 million working days lost in 2024/25, costing the UK economy an estimated £22.9 billion (View Source).

IOSH Working Safely & IOSH Managing Safely are considered worthwhile for both individuals and their organisations, with outcomes including greater confidence in understanding and managing workplace safety, with an internationally recognised qualification to include on each delegate's CV, and practical, transferable skills.

For businesses, the advantages of enrolling you and your team in IOSH Working and/or Managing Safely training include:

  • Reductions in workplace incidents – and the associated costs
  • Improved compliance with health and safety regulations
  • Proactive leadership teams that enforce workplace safety

Compared with the financial, operational, and reputational damage that workplace accidents can cause, the cost of formal training is substantially lower.

Steve Booker, Managing Director & Senior Training Instructor from Kentec Training had this to say: “Health and safety training isn’t purely about the cost of a course, it is an investment in risk reduction, improved efficiency and ensuring management have the capabilities they need to take real responsibility for safety. We all want to get home to our loved ones at the end of the day, and the correct, quality training is paramount to achieving that.”

Also, as a recognised management-level course, IOSH Managing Safely is seen as a cost-effective investment compared to more advanced qualifications like the NEBOSH General Certificate.
