CITB Short Course Grants

08/12/25 UPDATE: As of the 8th December 2025, CITB no longer provides funding through the Grants Scheme with the exception of Plant Operations, MEWP Training, Scaffolding and other specialist courses. Financial support is now delivered exclusively via Employer Networks.

If you're an employer in the construction industry, you could be eligible to receive funding from CITB towards your company's training costs.

The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) is a UK-based statutory body dedicated to providing training, establishing standards and qualifications, and supporting the construction sector. CITB is empowered to impose a levy on employers in the construction industry – this levy supports the development of the skilled workforce the industry needs. Registered employers with CITB can claim this levy back through grants that are available for completing short courses that focus on key skills which are seen as core to the needs of the construction industry.

Who can apply for this grant?

As a registered CITB Approved Training Organisation (ATO), Kentec Training can apply for grants on your company’s behalf from CITB towards your employee’s training costs for the achievement of approved short courses, potentially saving hundreds of pounds per employee per course.

To be eligible to apply for short course grants from CITB, you are required to:

Employers can apply for grants for all directly employed staff on the payroll and subcontractors, as well as business owners and partners.

As of 8th January 2026, course eligibility for short course grants has been changed by CITB. Only a select number of our specialist IPAF work at height and NPORS plant & machinery training courses are now eligible for short course grant funding.

How to apply for the grant?

When you book your course with Kentec Training, please ensure you provide our support team with the following:

    • Each learner’s details, including their National Insurance number.
    • Your 7-digit CITB registration number

Without either of these, Kentec will not be able to apply for the automated grant on your behalf.

When an individual has successfully achieved an approved short course, our support team will update CITB, prompting them to enter the achievement on the Construction Training Register and process the automated grant application. Grants are typically paid by bank transfer.

Newly registered employers have a maximum cap of 35 short course achievement grants for the financial year in which they are first registered, with the cap being lifted for subsequent years.

Please contact CITB’s Customer Services team on 0344 994 4455 if your payment is not received within one month of achieving the course.
